Unplugged. Bittersweet Brownies

BrowniesVerticalBrownies, the All-American fudgy, moist confections, are some of the easiest things to make. For this recipe all you need is a saucepan and a wooden spoon or spatula. And a love of chocolate. I’ve tweaked this recipe from Laurie Colwin’s article in the February, 1992, issue of Gourmet magazine. In the article, she says she got the recipe from a friend who in turn got it from a magazine piece on Katharine Hepburn.Ms.Hepburn includes walnuts in her family recipe. Ms. Colwin leaves them out, and so do I. The brownies are so moist that I find the walnuts intrusive.

I’ve upped the amount of chocolate by half because I like my brownies bittersweet. Let me warn you that it’s awfully hard to stop eating these brownies!
