I can eat pesto by the spoonful's. Thankyou for the recipe. I also learned from your post how to properly store pine nuts in the the freezer. In the past I have had some very stale pine nuts in the kitchen cabinet.

Hi Greg it’s Greg from Waimanalo. I make Pesto all the time also, but I keep it in a canning jar and top it with a thin coat of olive oil after every use. That helps keep it a fresh green and prolong its freshness for a few months. Have a great day🤙🏼

I had two friends who were traveling the US in an RV and would bring their basil plants along with them. I have tried growing basil in the house over the winter but the plants never really flourished and did not produce enough leaves to make it worth it. I suppose if I had a better set up they would grow better. The package of fresh basil I get from Safeway will have to suffice.

In the summer I grow so much Thai basil we can't use it all but allow it to go to seed for the next year. It's wonderful to go pick fresh basil.

I haven't made pesto in a long while; your post is inspiring me to give it a go. I even have a new block of Parmesan staring at me from the fridge.

Aloha, Jeannie

When we lived in Missoula, I made batches of pesto in the summer and froze them to remind us of summer in the winter. Pesto does keep well in the freezer, at least for a few months. Thank you so much for writing!

As Greg's Greg's official basil-leaf picker I enjoy the aroma of the leaves as I pick them until I have 4 ounces for him to turn into delicious pesto. Then of course the best part is the actual pesto on pasta for dinner, along with a generous salad I've prepared from greens and cucumbers and maybe a few baby tomatoes. It makes a perfect healthy evening meal.

Thanks for the explanation of the difference between Italian and Thai basil. Everytime I see Thai basil, I can tell there is a difference, but I was not able to put my finger on it. And, of course, I was not in a situation where both were in the same place for comparison!
